It’s new, it’s hip, it’s … more reading

Another chapter has been added to the available literature (Palm WebOS: Rough Cuts by Mitch Allen) on Safari Books.

We’re now up to four chapters:

  1. Overview of WebOS
  2. Application Basics
  3. Widgets
  4. Dialogs & Menus

I’ll try to pass on some cliff notes at some point. If anyone else is reading along with me, feel free to drop some comments.

Yay, Fox News? :-/

Regardless of my (or potentially your) aversion to Fox News, Sci/Tech writer Paul Wagenseil had a very nice article about the Pre… and really this is one of the first appearances on a major news network. Here’s to some more!

Hello sexy…

Just when we thought things were getting boring as we wait for official announcements for the Pre’s release date and price point, we were given a brief glimpse at the SDK in allsome … OK, hardly any of its glory. After all, aren’t we all members of Pre DEV Camp? Developers rejoice!!

A first glimpse at the SDK... more to come?

A first glimpse at the SDK... more to come?

Yet again…

Another video has popped up on the interwebs. This time it’s from eWeek’s Andrew Garcia. I know you’ve seen it all before, but if you’re anything like me, you can always find a few minutes in a day to drool over a Pre video.

Proof that WebOS will have PalmOS Emulator

Video

I had mentioned in a previous post that Palm’s announcement of a PalmOS emulator was made at CTIA. The video above demonstrates that it’s true. With so many apps (I think somewhere in the 150,000 range) having been developed for PalmOS, this instantaneously makes the Pre and WebOS an exciting new gadget even to people who are excrutiatingly dependent on their older PalmOS devices because of the programs that they’ve put on them. Now, just drag and drop the programs to your Pre and act as if nothing ever happened… except for the fact that YOU HAVE A PRE!!!!

Arrrgggg…. Can’t wait.

New video from Palm. Enjoy

Hey, something that’s actually worth reading…

I don’t have much time to post details of everything that has gone on today, so here are some brief synopses and links for you…

  • Amazon.com now has the book Rough Cuts by Mitch Allen available for pre-order. (Linky)
  • An announcement was made at CTIA this evening, and then on the PalmDeveloper website that the SDK will now be available by invite to those who apply. I wish everyone good luck getting in. Obviously I applied for an early view of the SDK (which I hope can be developed with a team of eager people like us)
  • Another interesting development that came from CTIA is that WebOS will have a legacy PalmOS emulator. For me, it’s been about 8 years since I used a Palm Pilot, I’ve been on Windows Mobile ever since then. But for a lot of people out there, PalmOS is what they’re used to and what they’ve poured resources into, whether it’s application development or purchasing. With this emulator, WebOS instantaneously adds thousands of PalmOS apps to its library of programs that will work on the device. That’s a pretty hefty addition to their App Store.
  • Thanks to mypre.com, there were bunches of twitter-esque posts (most larger than 140 characters) on their website throughout the day as they got to see demonstrations of the Pre. Those lucky bastards got to experience a ton of stuff first hand including:

I’m sure I missed something that happened today, but I’ll keep trying to fill you in. Keep coming back for your news.
